Black-owned beauty brands get a bad reputation for only catering to women of color, but while this is the case for some, it doesn’t ring true for many. In fact, many brands cater to all skin and hair types. Just ask Gwen Jimmere, the CEO and founder of Naturalicious, a hair care brand that empowers women to find beauty within. “I’m routinely inspired to continue providing a voice and delivering confidence to women all over the globe,” says Jimmere. “My goal is for her to wake up every day, look in the mirror and say, ‘Hello Gorgeous!'”

Here are our favorite Black-owned beauty brands that speak to all skin and hair types:

For makeup

Uoma Beauty: Pronounced OMA (uh-mah), this inclusive Black-owned beauty brand includes shades for all skin tones. We love the Allure Black Magic Color Palette for summer colors.

Coloured Raine Cosmetics: A cruelty-free brand with mainly vegan offerings.

Juvia’s Place: Foundations, concealers, highlighters, powders, eyeshadows, eyeliners and blushes in a variety of shades.

Beauty Bakerie: Cruelty-free cosmetics that empower men and women to feel their best.

Fenty Beauty: Launched in 2017, Fenty Beauty is Rihanna’s first solo cosmetics brand with a promise of inclusion for all women—including 50 shades of foundation.

The Lip Bar: The brand offers an array of foundations and shadows, but they are best known for pigmented glosses and lip shades. We’re obsessed with trophy wife lip gloss because it goes with everything we own.

Range Beauty: If you find it difficult to find the right shade and undertone at your local drugstore, you’ve come to the right place.

Pat McGrath Labs: When world-renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath launched this business, we knew we were in for a real treat. Aside from red sparkly lips and shimmery eyeshadows, the brand recently tapped Naomi Campbell as the first-ever global face for the brand.

Ace Beaute Cosmetics: The motto at Ace Beaute is “Beauty for all regardless of age, sex, skin color, religion or socio economic status” and that’s what true beauty is all about.

Lovinah: Lovinah eye shadows are ultra-pigmented, long-lasting and enriched with moisturizing ingredients including squalene and nilotica, as well as real crushed gemstones.

For skin care

Mary Louise Cosmetics: Serums, face masks, soaps and hand sanitizers inspired by natural recipes and homemade remedies.

Camille Rose: Created by CEO and mom of five, Janell Stephens., Camille Rose launched with skin care products ranging from diaper rash cream to nursing mom cream. Since then, the label has grown significantly and now offers an assortment of hair care skin care of all hair and skin types.

skinBUTTR: Body and skin care lines designed to leave your skin feeling fresh, glowing and sweetly scented.

Beneath Your Mask: When Dana Jackson was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), she wanted to create a non-irritating, and non-toxic skin care line that encourages others to not be defined by society’s approval. In 2012, she launched whipped skin soufflé, as an expression of self-acceptance and the rest is history.

KNC Beauty: If your lips need a boost of hydration, look to this brand’s all-natural, collagen-infused mask for a perfect pout.

Oui the People: Karen Young created a brand that makes no “perfecting, flawless, or anti-aging” claims, but instead provides thoughtful products that help you feel amazing in your own skin.

Beautystat Cosmetics: Skin care products made of premium-quality ingredients developed by a cosmetic chemist.

NKVSKIN: Baltimore-based skin care brand NKVSKIN creates handcrafted skin care products that are perfect for all skin types. The line is also full of products that address an array of skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation and healing and preventing acne.

Luv Scrub: Look at their mesh bath cloth to clean and transform your skin to a baby soft texture.

Hyper Skin: Its debut product, Hyper Clear, is a vitamin C serum with vitamin E, kojic acid, turmeric and bearberry that brightens skin and diminishes hyperpigmentation.

Honey Pot: Founded on the belief that all products should be free of chemicals, parabens, carcinogens and sulfates, The Honey Pot Company offers an extensive range of organic and natural feminine care products for humans with vaginas. Try the mommy-to-be collection that consists of wipes, a hygiene wash, postpartum herbal pads, among others.

Plant Apothecary: An organic, vegan, unisex line that’s gentle enough for sensitive skin—even babies.

For hair care

Briogeo: Briogeo’s mission is simple: To create high-quality hair care products that address immediate hair concerns—frizz, dryness, breakage—while creating a foundation for long-term nourished strands.

Miss Jessie’s: A natural hair care line and salon known for styling curly, kinky and wavy hair of all types and textures.

Curls: A natural hair line, including shampoos, conditioners and leave in stylers for babies and children.

Oyin Handmade: “Oyin” is the Yoruba word for honey, and it also means sweetness, joy and love—everything the brand hopes to give customers looking for healthier hair.

Meraki Organics: Founder Amber Makupson was inspired to create Meraki after experiencing a chemical burn from a conventional drugstore beauty product. Now, all products feature a real gemstone in the bottle, as well ingredients like amla, argan and prickly pear seed oils.

Pattern By Tracee Ellis Ross: A haircare brand that focuses on hair health and encourages every texture to take up as much space as it desires. If you’re looking for extra moisture, try the intensive conditioner for tight textures.

EDEN Bodyworks: Inspired by nature, this hair care brand offers products that treat and maintain natural hair. We’re huge fans of the papaya castor foam conditioner—it provides lightweight daily moisture that leaves your hair smoother, softer and free of build-up.

We independently select and share the products we love—and may receive a commission if you choose to buy. You’ve got this.
